Very good! Loved hearing first hand accounts of the event and Lord's style of writing was excellent. I loved the part where he mentions Jack Thayer having a bit of brandy for the first time on the Carpathia and realizing that he's a grown up, despite having spent the night balancing on an overturned lifeboat in frigid Atlantic waters. Also loved how straight and to the point it was, it really was about that NIGHT, not about the construction of the Titantic or the squabbling over the business matters.
I enjoyed this book very much because not only did it describe the experience on the Titanic, but it also described the experience on the Carpathia as they came to rescue those from the Titanic disaster.

What is most interesting is comparing new information to what is in this book. Lord got some things wrong, as is to be expected, but his efforts are not in vain. Also interesting is picking up on quotes James Cameron used in the film.

As someone who‘s always been "obsessed" with the Titanic (not in a romanticizing way of course), this book was just a must read. While not entirely up to date of course, it’s astonishing how much was truly put into a rather short book, and how the author managed to weave it into a coherent line of information and happenings. Honestly reading it felt like you were there, and it really gets you thinking about life.
It’s easy to discard the past, and I often struggle to think of the people who lived there as the same as me now, because it just seems so unimaginable to live the way they did. But they were real people, with real lives, who lived through this horror. And in the moment I write this, there are people suffering. Genocides, other types of murder.. life is so fragile, bizarre and honestly heartbreaking in itself.
Just seeing the passenger list at the end especially feels so weird and heavy. At this point I wanna just add a daily reminder that I do, in fact, hate rich people!! Bye
this sounds so pretentious but this honestly got me spiraling into another wave of nihilism now LOL 😭
