A sweet little historical western. This was a slow clean burn and a nice story but it didn’t quite hit the spot for me. The plot and setting were very simple and this held a lot of slice of life, which I like in my historical, but I wanted a bit more from the relationship. The heroine is holding back a lot of herself from the hero right into the very last few pages so there was no real relationship between them until the end. Also this was incredibly similar to another book by this author -his secondhand wife- and I think that one was done better. This story would really have benefitted from an epilogue a few years out, but it was a good read and had an old school feel, which was nice.
I’ve read, like, ten westerns in a row now so I think I need to find something else before I start speaking with a drawl.

**Most of my reviews contain detailed CW/TW sections, which may include spoilers.  I have tried to mark them appropriately, but please use caution.**

Ebook

2.5/5

Summary: Pregnant Linnea arrives to serve as housekeeper for Will and his aging mother/ranchhands.

Stats: HR, Western, Standalone, fade to black/closed door - leaning clean.

Notes: Good homesteady stuff, my irritation primarily comes with the fact that the FMC's sexual trauma is used as proof of her virtue at the very end of the story.

Less Thorough, but Spoilery, Content Warnings (CW) and Trigger Warnings (TW):
pregnancy, rape

This is a lovely, gentle, read. It could only be improved by them resolving things before the end of the book and not having that silliness carry on for so long. Apart from the unnecessary angst, this was a really good break from the mediocre books I’d been slogging through.

I really liked this book because of the way the character and relationship development was shown but I did want to see a bit more scenes with interactions.

I liked Linnea and Will and how they interacted with each other but I wanted to see more scenes with them spending time together. Also, there were a few scenes with the workers (ranch hands, I think) but I wanted to see more because you couldn’t see their personalities clearly. After Rebecca came, she wasn’t shown much and I wanted to see how everyone interacted with her.

I really liked the plot but after Linnea revealed everything to Will, I wanted to see a few more chapters showing how they would live together.

I definitely want to read more books by this author.
