Doesn’t feel right to rate someone’s life and what he experienced. A moving story but wasn’t told right. I wish it had been more personal.

This book tells the story of Enaiatollah Akbari, a 10 year old (maybe) Afghan who lives the majority of his teenage years as an illegal immigrant. I read this book in Italian, as that is the original story, and thought it was brilliantly written. The book reads like a novel, Eniat, the 10 year old boy narrates the story, focusing on the important pieces in his travels towards Italy.
I think i enjoyed this book so much because of how relevant it is, and how the fact that it's a true story, really gives us insight on what the refugees really go through to get to our European Countries, and most of the time to be disappointed with what they find. Although Eniat, was actually going through his journey between 2000-2006 (i believe) what happened to him, what he went through, is no different to what thousands of people are going through now everyday.
Some pieces of his journey were extremely shocking, and left me some what stunned. I tried to imagine myself in his shoes, in his situation and realized i probably would have died. The amount of persistence, dedication and strength that is needed for a journey like that, at such a young age, is beyond something i can imagine for myself. This book is important because it gives us perspective, it allows us to understand the stories of thousands of people who we are quick to judge.
One other quick thing that i enjoyed about this book was that throughout the story there would be small little extracts from the interviews with Fabio Geda (the author) and with Enaiat (the narrator) and i thought that it really brought the story to life, and reminded us that this is real.
Maybe it's not philosophical and mind-twisting but it gave me perspective and insight, it was also an easy read, and emotion-filled, which allowed me to also enjoy reading it.
