I can never turn down the opportunity to review a new Bible, so when I received the opportunity to review the NKJV, Apply the Word Study Bible, I knew that it would soon be making its way into my house.
There’s a lot of love about this Bible. Here are a few of my favorite things:
It’s a NKJV, and that is one of my favorite translations. In fact, for many years, it was the only translation that I regularly used.
There are full-color maps and little features about major cities that are encountered, as well as sidebar articles discovering such geographical journeys and the life of Elisha or the life of Samuel.
There are historical notes and timelines included. I found the ones on the kingdoms in Egypt and the timeline for the book of Ezekiel to be of special interest to me.
There are little blue boxes scattered throughout the text on important people in the Bible, including questions for devotional response.
There are a large number of orange application notes in the Bible, covering everything from obscure topics such as concubines in the Bible and clean vs. unclean to the considerations of very modern questions such as career changes and the worship of work.
This is a really nice Bible, and I’ll be turning to the study notes again and again and I look at topics different ways in my studies. I did feel that space was a little cramped in the Bible. I like to take notes into my Bible, and there’s not much margin room and the print is on the smallish side. However, having said that, there’s a wide amount of study material and explanations in this Bible that makes it well worth having and using.
