I really enjoyed reading this book. I had a hard time putting it down and read it very quickly. I enjoyed the current and the historical mysteries and the way they were intertwined. There is paranormal subplot that adds to the creepy mysteries. Fiona, a present day journalist, solves both mysteries. I really liked the rural Vermont setting and the characters. The mysteries are good and the solutions make sense. Enjoy this page turner.

Fiona was a dummy, cops need to be eradicated. I did end up enjoying our group of girls from Idlewild, especially at the end when they were older, it was cute. The historical angle was interesting but the mysteries were a flop for me. Both resolutions to both murders were meh. Jamie's daddy needs to BURN

About the book

In Vermont in 1950 there existed a boarding school for troubled girls, and rumor has it it’s haunted. Four girls become friends there, living in this scary place until one of them disappears and doesn’t come back…
In 2014 a journalist called Fiona can’t stop investigating her sister’s death, who was found on the grounds of the boarding school. When she learns the boarding school is being restored she decides to write a story about it and soon discovers there is a lot more going on then she first thought….

My thoughts about the book

Did I kept reading this book until 1 am to finish it last night? Ehm yes! What a thrilling story, I couldn’t put it down! After having read The Sun Down motel I knew I wanted to read more of Simone St. James and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. It had some turns I didn’t see coming and it’s written very well, I can also recommend the audiobook!

So good! This paranormal thriller was a buddy read with my husband, so here are a few of both our thoughts
Her: Dual timeline with good flow between. Both timelines were interesting, but I particularly enjoyed the 1950s chapters and characters, as well as the boarding school setting. Narration was well done. 🎧4.5⭐️
Him: I liked it. I enjoyed the past timeline most, and that it was told with multiple POVs. 📖4⭐️
