Sometimes, you just KNOW a book is going to be worth 5 stars right off the bat. That's how I felt as soon as I started my book annotation journey with this book in particular. I went insane not just with the witty narration style but also with the amount of details showcased at the start of every chapter. The Flashbacks might've been a problem to others but, maybe this is on me being an anime viewer, I found that it was shown to the reader/s at the perfect time. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat as I tried to guess how they were going to get out of the situations they were in whilst getting a better understanding of what each individual 'girls' thought process is like.

I'm also a sucker for the found family troupe. So, seeing Nora and Wes banter all throughout was very enjoyable to read about. As I also like some angst sprinkled along, the aftermath of their break-up was handled really well especially with how great of a middle-man Wes played during Truth for Truth between Nora and Iris. Speaking of Iris, Her chaotic energy truly brings me life.

As curious as I am for a sequel (since the resolution made it seem like that was a possibility and I would love to see more of Lee if I'm being honest), I also wouldn't mind if it just stayed as a standalone. It works either way - as the reader sees how far Nora has grown as a character when comes to a conclusion about her identity and how her trauma doesn't define who she is.

Personally, I thought that the idea behind this book was very memorable and unique. There is a lot to say about Nora’s character development, and overall life. I really enjoyed the bits of backstory place throughout the book, and figuring out how the tidbits of information all fit together to make one story.

My favorite part of the story was the last sentence “My name is Nora”. This is perfection *chefs kiss* 🤌🏻 Words can’t describe my thoughts right now! She found herself in the midst of a hostage situation, and Nora had to find a way to come to terms with the big feelings that she had.

I also like the entirety of the last chapter when Nora and Abby talked about love. It’s a smack in the face to see the disregard that Abby had for Nora but also realistic in the sense that Mothers and Daughters always seem to have a division in their relationship.

This was our book club pick for this month. While I liked it, the entire club agreed that the amount of trauma felt a bit excessive throughout this book, especially since the way it was marketed did not indicate how dark and heavy the topics would be. We would have all appreciated trigger warnings for the extensive abuse that is both detailed and implied in the main character, Nora’s, flashbacks to her life as a con artist. Netflix is making this a movie, and I have my doubts about how it will translate to screen, especially given the book is aimed at teenagers.

I found parts of this novel slow to read, but the more I read, the more I enjoyed it. I wish the character's backstory came first, instead of alternating between the present-day chapters, because I found it hard to keep track of what each girl's story was.

Despite all of this, I really liked a lot of aspects of this story; the LGBTQ+ representation, endometriosis awareness, and an intriguing protagonist. The opening sentence was gripping too!

A great read.
