Although not the most innovative writing of all time, it was so fun! I’ve never seen the movie before and just decided to pick up the book randomly because nothing in particular sounded good and I’m so glad I did because my reading slump has disappeared!!

The nostalgia!!

Definitely a case where the movie is better than the books.
I remember reading this back in middle school and not thinking it had been terrible. Now, re-reading it as an adult, even nostalgic feelings for the book can’t save it from how terrible it is.
Majority of the time, characters such as Mia and Lilly were hard to enjoy. Mia, being a character we should root for seemed to only have complaints about her life and could come across as selfish when she whined to get her way. Lilly, the best friend, is nothing but a bully to Mia. Honestly, I thought it was sad that Mia wanted to maintain the friendship after their fight.
I could go on about how often I found myself getting upset over all of the characters, mainly the teenagers who act as though they are superior in their knowledge to how the world and people work. However, I suppose we all thought we were invincible as young kids.
Overall, I would say if you are a fan of the movie I’d be hesitant of reading the book. Especially if you love the nostalgia of it, and want to keep the movie sacred as a good comfort film.

I’m so happy I decided to pick this up after all these years. As most of us, I watched the movies growing up and adored them. It was so nice seeing the source material for the movies! It was interesting seeing what differences there are between the books and movie.

Mia is so sassy in this. I love her. She is only 14, but doesn’t feel too childish at all. Lilly and Michael are funny. The supporting characters are great too.

Overall, this was a fun read and I’m excited to continue on with Mia’s Princess journey!

Effortless perfection.

I liked this series. The books were interesting. I loved the movies though. That brought the whole thing to life for me.

Lekka i przyjemna rozrywka. Dobrze się bawiłam słuchając jej i napewno sięgnę po kolejne tomy. Koniecznie muszę obejrzeć ekranizację!

Always a delightful read by Meg Cabot. I loved the Princess Diaries when it was published when I was a child and I still love it today. To the point I reread it every couple of years. Even though I just read it in 2022, I decided to enjoy it again in 2023 and was not disappointed in how good it still is all these years after publication.
Mia is goofy and immature but the perfect example of a freshman in high school. Especially a freshman who learns their shocking secret identity and then grapples with the ensuing repercussions and the decision of who to tell.
As always, five stars.
