I decided to retread this series after catching the last half of the movie on Disney channel the other day. There are so many outdated references in this book. Landline phones that can't be used when someone is on the internet. Princess Diana. I still love this book. Even if Mia seems very naive but who isn't as a freshman in high school. I really did enjoy this book.

First off: this is fairly different from the movie but I like the differences. The grandmother is no Julie Andrews but a hardened sidecar drinking chainsmoker and Mia's father isn't dead but merely sterile. Otherwise the plot is largely the same and a basic teen ugly duckling story, though more about personal growth than literal beauty
