This book is like a time capsule of late 90's, early 2000's, culture. Great for anyone who is feeling nostalgic, or curious, about the popular media from the time. Otherwise, a few of the perspectives in this book are a bit dated, and most of the characters are unlikable; I had fun reading this, and will likely read the next in series, but I can't suggest it.
This book is a as golden as I remember it to be.

I read this once as a kid when it came out and I guess it never registered how cringey this is. And it definitely didn't age well.
I liked the concept of it being entirely diary entries - with occasional school notes & other tidbits - but it definitely doesn't read as a 14-year-old's diary, so the concept was pointless.

I tried this book about 13 years ago and I really didn’t like the voice. It was too full of teen speak. This time I listened to it on audio narrated by Anne Hathaway and I thought it was really fun. A lot of differences from the movie too, which made it feel like new.

3 stars. I last read this book when I was eleven years old and it has never been a favorite of mine in the series. It’s one of my least in the series from what I can remember and I always preferred the movie. Mia is high key insufferable and self centered but she definitely made me laugh quite a bit. Some aspects of this book have not aged well at all but it was a fun trip down memory lane. I loved this series when I was younger so I decided I might as well add this to my rotation of childhood re-reads. I’m excited to continue on.
