I gotta say this feels like the longest 6 hour audiobook I have ever listened to in my entire life. Only by the power of Anne Hathaway's narration did I get through it.

My issues is that I LOVE the movie (and the sequel) so much. I've seen it a million times and it is deep rooted in my childhood. While I do remember reading these books back then too, I read them after the movie and was annoyed how different they were. It's so funny too because they ARE very similar but the things that are different in the book, oof.

This is a time where the movie is so much better than the book, 1000%. This book is told in epistolary format and oh my god Mia is so annoying?? I get she's 14 but she's obsessed with her flat chest and she's just so grating (and lowkey judgmental toward everyone) in general. She's so immature and has tantrums and she keeps wanting to remind me how young she and the actual audience of this book is. I want to say it hasn't aged well but I don't really think it was good in the first place.

A major difference in this book is that Mia's father is alive and her grandmother is so mean?? I hated her grandmother so much??? She wasn't cute, nice, and caring Julie Andrews and I'm so MAD WHERE IS JULIE WHAT IS THIS.

Interesting enough there is a character in this who I liked a lot and I'm so mad wasn't in the movies: Tina is a rich girl who has a bodyguard even at school and Mia starts hanging out with her after Lilly starts acting like a shit. Tina is such a pure sunflower, I loved her so much. Wtf why wasn't she in the movies? Coward.

The book is not very long but listening to it felt like it was triple and I'm still not sure how it managed that. Not much really happens and so many things just felt dragged out and things that should have had more screen time were minor. The diary format didn't help either, ugh so much cringe and I didn't need her homework assignments... at all.

I really just want to watch the movie right now though, it was all I wanted to do instead of listening to this.

Love Meg Cabot, she’s an entertaining author.

The Princess Diaries are a series I go back to probably every 1 or 2 years, I like Mia’s voice and the way that Meg really shows how self important and even judgemental we are as teenagers but at the same time Mia is totally relatable with the way she sometimes sees things. She’s definitely naive for her age in many ways and I’ve seen lots of people seem to have major issues with this series but I’ll never get tired of them.

The films were atrocious- really dumbed down the books which was a shame and lost the brilliantly entertaining character of Grandmere completely - as a young kids film in their own right they would have been ok but were a poor homage to this series.

If you don’t like Mia’s character don’t be put off Meg Cabot - she also has books for adults and I particularly recommend Size 12 is not Fat and the rest of the series (Heather Wells mysteries) - laugh out loud hilarious at points as well as the Queen of Babble series.

Well, the book wasn't perfect, but it was fun to read anyway. I really love the movie, and even though the book is kinda different, it was still entertaning. I will be continuing with the series.

honestly, we've all been there, all the teenage drama, constantly learning and changing our minds... mia, it's just growing up and i can't judge her.

i just have to say that lilly was annoying and josh was kind of disgusting... other than that i really enjoyed reading this, it was fun and it made me relax.

the only thing that bothered me, a lot, that Mia was happy Iran bombed Afghanistan so her picture kissing that guy that she should have shoved and pushed away is not plastered on every newspaper's front page

Where is Anne Hathaway's audiobook Grammy???
