This book was fine. The general idea for a plot was okay but it was not for me for 2 main reasons. I prefer concise writing & in my opinion this book was probably 50 pages too long at a minimum. Additionally I did not find the conflict believable. As a final note, the character Kieko seemed like a caricature of an autistic person. She was supposed to have this huge vocabulary but while she did know a lot of big words some of them were clearly looked up in a thesaurus & plugged in simply to have a larger word when the word seemed to distort the meaning of the sentence.

I'm a little sad to give a low rating but here's why.

The first half of the book was perfect: accidental marriage that turns into a marriage of convenience. She is against it so she fights it, cue the banter and tension between them. The chemistry was palpable, I loved it.

The second half? I feel like it was all over the place.  The start getting along, they open up to each other but see, there's something he's not telling her. Because to her, their marriage was a result of a drunken mistake yes but not so much of convenience. They kinda knew each other before and the attraction was already there so he said "why not?"

Yeah, not really. He has an ulterior motive for wanting to stay married which isn't anything inherently bad. It becomes so when it's been months and he still hasn't told her.

Honestly, I understand miscommunication could have its use but like this? For me it leads to unnecessary drama which I hate hence the low rating.

Her reaction kinda was a bit extreme but it's because she has past trauma with relationships and has a hard time trusting people. All of this he knew.

And then, after the climax hits the resolution? Not enough and too quick. they're forced to share a space together, again, and first he pushes her away then he tries to win her back and then he is the one who's mad at her??? and the thing that makes her forgive him? a joke. honestly, wtf.

I feel like what makes a good book is the drama resolution and this one disappointed me big time.

I really really like Keiko.
Everyone who agrees needs to read Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid.
