This book was fine. The general idea for a plot was okay but it was not for me for 2 main reasons. I prefer concise writing & in my opinion this book was probably 50 pages too long at a minimum. Additionally I did not find the conflict believable. As a final note, the character Kieko seemed like a caricature of an autistic person. She was supposed to have this huge vocabulary but while she did know a lot of big words some of them were clearly looked up in a thesaurus & plugged in simply to have a larger word when the word seemed to distort the meaning of the sentence.

I loved this book! It was so cute and had me laughing out loud at times. My only complaint is that the way Keiko is treated by Cora really rubs me the wrong way. She never really owns up to it or truly seems sorry/apologizes to Keiko for any of it. She’s been friends with Keiko for a while but still treats her like an outsider. I also felt she said unkind things about Keiko often, and it made me think uh, isn’t that your friend? Humans make mistakes (point of the book hehe) but I almost DNF because it just felt cruel and unnecessary.

I really really like Keiko.
Everyone who agrees needs to read Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid.
