Pranks seem to be a central theme in this series and while they’re usually pretty funny, I do think Cora went too far a couple of times. I freaking loved the night in Vegas though! Drunk Cora and Pike were HILARIOUS! This did get more emotional than I thought it would, but overall it was a fast, funny read!

This book was fine. The general idea for a plot was okay but it was not for me for 2 main reasons. I prefer concise writing & in my opinion this book was probably 50 pages too long at a minimum. Additionally I did not find the conflict believable. As a final note, the character Kieko seemed like a caricature of an autistic person. She was supposed to have this huge vocabulary but while she did know a lot of big words some of them were clearly looked up in a thesaurus & plugged in simply to have a larger word when the word seemed to distort the meaning of the sentence.

I'm a little sad to give a low rating but here's why.

The first half of the book was perfect: accidental marriage that turns into a marriage of convenience. She is against it so she fights it, cue the banter and tension between them. The chemistry was palpable, I loved it.

The second half? I feel like it was all over the place.  The start getting along, they open up to each other but see, there's something he's not telling her. Because to her, their marriage was a result of a drunken mistake yes but not so much of convenience. They kinda knew each other before and the attraction was already there so he said "why not?"

Yeah, not really. He has an ulterior motive for wanting to stay married which isn't anything inherently bad. It becomes so when it's been months and he still hasn't told her.

Honestly, I understand miscommunication could have its use but like this? For me it leads to unnecessary drama which I hate hence the low rating.

Her reaction kinda was a bit extreme but it's because she has past trauma with relationships and has a hard time trusting people. All of this he knew.

And then, after the climax hits the resolution? Not enough and too quick. they're forced to share a space together, again, and first he pushes her away then he tries to win her back and then he is the one who's mad at her??? and the thing that makes her forgive him? a joke. honestly, wtf.

I feel like what makes a good book is the drama resolution and this one disappointed me big time.

All Cora wanted was to have fun, enjoy her mini divorce vacation, and have some quality time with her girlfriends… that is until Pike Greyson came into the picture, and things got A LOT more interesting.

You would think that reading the premise of this story that involved a drunken night in Las Vegas would easily translate into an predictable plot, but Meghan Quinn did a great job of keeping me on my toes and added more depth, humor, and heart into Cora and Pike’s story. Originally, Cora just wanted to celebrate her newfound freedom after having a horrible marriage to her former husband, she wasn’t looking for anything serious, but with Pike he changed her outlook on relationship… specifically with their marriage.

Each Cora and Pike wanted different things such as, Cora wanted their marriage annulled whereas Pike wanted to see where their marriage could work out or not. Obviously there was more of a reason behind why Pike wanted to stay married to Cora, but over time (quickly in my opinion) he started to fall even more for Cora. Initially, Pike always kept a distance from Cora because, he worked with Cora’s brother, Arlo at the same high school, but both Cora and Pike were already attracted to one another way before their drunken night in Vegas.

In the beginning half of the story, Pike and Cora kind of gave me slightly “enemies to lovers”, in regards to Cora trying every way possible to try to deter and convince Pike that he staying married to her would be a big, fat problem. Unfortunately, for Cora, Pike was able to see through the tricks and lies and counter attacked with his own tricks. I will say while some of the things that Cora did to Pike was funny, at some point I felt like the “pranks” went too far, and I genuinely felt bad for Pike. Poor Pike, he genuinely tried to make the marriage work, meanwhile Cora kind of crossed a line with her tricks, and hurt Pike. Thankfully, Cora realized the wrongs she committed and felt immense guilt for what she did and out Pike through. All in all, Pike and Cora were constantly at odds with one another, but gradually came to an agreement, that being them admitting their feelings for one another.

This story was filled with humor, romance, emotional stuff, and of course steamy passion. For all the steamy spice that I loved in this book, I wasn’t expecting the emotions backstory of Cora’s past, and my heart broke for her. Cora had gone through some events that made her put up a wall, keep herself guarded and protected because, she didn’t want to expose herself to being hurt again. Pike being the absolute British gentleman that he was, helped Cora see that her understood her, supported her, and stood by her side no matter what. In other words, Pike was living up to the status of being an M.V.P. Husband to Cora.

Through all the ups and downs in Pike and Cora’s unconventional start to their marriage, they ended up not only falling in love, but helping each other realize they were better together, and helped each other grow. This was a great romantic comedy (in my opinion), had good depth, emotional hook, loveable characters, and good plot line. If you loved Meghan Quinn’s other books, I think you’ll love this story as well.

I loved this book! It was so cute and had me laughing out loud at times. My only complaint is that the way Keiko is treated by Cora really rubs me the wrong way. She never really owns up to it or truly seems sorry/apologizes to Keiko for any of it. She’s been friends with Keiko for a while but still treats her like an outsider. I also felt she said unkind things about Keiko often, and it made me think uh, isn’t that your friend? Humans make mistakes (point of the book hehe) but I almost DNF because it just felt cruel and unnecessary.

Cora Turner has been through the wringer. She has just managed to get rid of the barnacle that was her ex-husband. So it's time to celebrate her divorce-cation in Vegas with her besties. Her best girls are all her brother's colleagues from the school where he teaches (one of whom he actually married). You know how it is in Vegas: inhibitions drop, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas and all that. So, Cora is determined to have a hell of a good time and then go home and live her well-deserved single life. What she doesn't count on is meeting Pike Greyson in a bar in Vegas. He's the History teacher at the school - a motorcycle riding hunk of a man with the most alluring British accent. She has tried to call his attention before but apparently to no avail, but apparently he's also in "Vegas mode" and the two of them take off, ditching the girls. With the help of a frighteningly high level of Fireballs in her system, Cora and Pike have a grand ole time in the Sin City.
When Cora wakes up the next day with the mother of all hangovers, she finds out that she married Pike! On a dare! WTF! This was supposed to be the kick-off of her single life! Well, annulments are for this kind of situation, right? There is only one problem: her "husband" wants to stay married and he proposes a three-month "trial period" in which he will win her heart. But, as nothing is what it seems, Pike has ulterior motives to stay married.
By the end of the trial period, they are in love... but will that tiny little detail that Pike has been hiding form Cora put everything at risk?
I was waiting for Cora's story since the first book in this series. If anyone deserved a HEA, it's Cora. She went through hell in her life and all her friends were finding true love. I really liked Pike and he was perfect for Cora. I absolutely loved their story!
I know that a lot of people hate the miscommunication trope in romance novels, but seriously? This is human nature. Shrinks wouldn't have their schedules full if we as people had learnt to actually communicate with each other. So, I can see why Pike couldn't be honest with Cora and also why she was so hurt that he wasn't.
I also loved catching up on Arlo/Greer, Stella/Romeo and I LOVED that Keiko got her HEA in this book too!
I'm sad to leave school! C'mon, Meghan, there are more teachers in that school!

Narration: I love Vanessa Edwin and she does an amazing job in this book. John Hartley is a new narrator for me. He does a great Pike.

Possible triggers: Mentions of a  toxic relationship in a marriage, mentions of a previous suicide attempt

I really really like Keiko.
Everyone who agrees needs to read Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid.
