I feel as though I enjoy the Harry Hole plots but towards the end (I’m not sure if it’s a translation issue or not) but the action becomes a little muddled and needs reading a couple of times to understand who is doing what. There just seem to be some small narrative jumps or sentences are a little too ambiguous which stops me from giving 4 stars

Harry Hole has a case in Thailand with an Norwegian ambassador that is found dead in a brothel. In his suitcase they find child pornografic. If it hadn't been part of a series I would probebly not have picked it up as I feel very uncomfortable to read about things like that. I've still not warmed up completely to the series but it might have been because the content. Enjoyed Harry Hole as a character a bit more in this. Might continue if I find the next book compelling enough.

I'm really starting to dig Harry Hole and enjoy him as the protagonist of this series. I was told by a few people to skips books one and two and start with book three, but clearly I didn't listed...and I don't regret it. I'm loving Harry as the protagonist of this series. He's clearly a bright man, but a bright man with many flaws and a past that haunts him. I think I like him most because he's imperfect in many ways and I find him relatable. This novel is in an exotic locale like the first one and the scenes are set with a deft hand by the author. Bangkok comes alive in this novel and shows it's seedy underbelly. I'm looking forward to the next book.

It is a good book with a great plot. It twists and turns showing you only glimpses of who is the real criminal. Harry is such a flawed character. You hope beyond hope that he can get past his demons. Just when it appears he has the author throws him another curve ball and sends him into tragedy again. Harry reminds me a lot of Archie from the Gretchen and Archie Series. I wonder if the author will let him get over his demons.

Extremely good as all the other books in this series!

Easily my least favorite Nesbo book so far, which is disappointing because I've really enjoyed the other four that I've read in the series.

Cockroaches is the second novel in this series. Detective Hole is sent to Thailand to investigate the murder of the Norwegian ambassador, plunging him into a world where the lines between right and wrong are not always straightforward. As the story progresses, Harry continues to evolve and grow as a character and is one step closer to Harry from the later novels that we all know and love.
The pacing is well-executed, with the plot steadily building momentum as the layers of the mystery unfold. The plot twists are not predictable like in some other crime novels, and Nesbo kept me guessing until the final pages. Similar to his other novels, this one again boasts an intricate plot, however, there are moments where the narrative feels slightly convoluted, and the intricacies of the plot are challenging to follow. I had to go back several times to check the facts and some of the characters’ names. Additionally, the themes covered are definitely on the darker side and definitely not suitable for those seeking a lighter read.
All things considered this is a good prequel, but I like his later novels better.
