I might end up revising this book based on putting things into practice, but I found this book to be an empowering look at how you can create bottom up change from a leadership position.

I also found it to be really helpful in breaking down the specific mechanisms involved but also at examining how and why they fail when used in isolation instead of in concert.

It was also fun to have a “organizational leadership” book that focused on running a submarine instead of a business, because it makes it just a little more interesting!

Here's the deal - I am a manager in a small/mid sized organization and it was suggested by a co-worker that we read this together. I think very little of "leadership" books, and most self-help type books in general, so had very low expectations. So color me very, very surprised to find this book immensely useful, combining non-cliched recommendations with tangible examples of them in use!

This was recommended on a course I did recently for work and then it happened to be on sale in the kindle store - I figured that sounded like fate to me!

It was a fascinating read precisely because it blended his fully developed method for the "leader-leader" model with anecdotes about how he got there with his crew. I'm not yet in a position of any authority but it is good food for thought about how to better hone my own approach to collaboration and leadership.

One of the best books about leadership. It's especially great for introverts and facilitators.

Insightful, and full of things to try. The idea of developing leaders all through your organization is a powerful one that encourages emergent behavior.

Having first come across David Marquet as course faculty for an agile course, I was intrigued to read in more detail how he created a leader-leader culture. This book is definitely in my top 5 for the year! Each chapter has reflective questions and food for thought at the end turning it from a passive read to one that fully engages. And, I am excited to think about how to apply these practices to my current organisation.
