This is honestly the best book I have ever read. It can get a little bit emotional and there are some rather violent murders in the book for readers that don’t like gore, although there are only about 2 gruesome descriptions. This book is full of juicy plot twists and interesting characters (some of them animals.) that keep the story moving at a good pace. In the beginning of the book, there are many confusing things that seem to be introduced at random, but there are several eureka 💡 moments in the book that make it all make sense.

this book is incredibly unique. i loved the story, and i can definitely see myself teaching this. i agree with other reviews here: the descriptions of torture and murder may be too much for some young readers. the story is whimsical but dark. i recommend it for anyone looking for an imaginative and descriptive read

A little childish (unrealistic advocacy against animal cruelty, seems to ignore how animals eat each other as well) but an interesting and thought-provoking read. Bit of a plot hole as to the origin of the main character.

Interesting story and I loved the ending, but the writing style kind of made it hard for me to feel connected to the characters.

This is YA but there’s a few pretty grotesque murders so probably not appropriate for some young readers….
