Not for me. Most of the endings were bittersweet or bitter, and the ones that weren't were remniscient of a brand of feminism I don't care for.
The art and design team did an incredible job, though, and they're most of the reason I picked this book up. They deserve every penny and more for their work!

The book described in the Hazel Wood series. So if you liked the series you'll like them here. If you didn't or haven't read it, probably don't read this.... unless you really like dark twisted short fairytales with no happy endings.

I found this book to be really interesting and it was nice to finally know about the actual story. When I was reading the main series I thought I was being left out from a very important book club because everyone had either lived through or heard of the stories. I feel like if I were to go back in time and read this series I would read this book first because it is like a blueprint that makes the main story more interesting.

I struggled for a few days after reading (listening) this book before posting a review. I liked it for sure, I had no problem finishing it but after consideration, I think it’s just average for me. The most compelling part was hearing the fairy tales.

It was really good. If you like the dark fairytales that the Grimm Brothers, Andrew Lang, and Hans Christian Anderson write then you’ll probably enjoy Melissa Albert’s version of dark fairytales. Her writing style has the same gothic and dark appeal as those previous mentioned writers.

Tales from the Hinterland is a collection of short stories written by the grandmother of our main character in The Hazelwood. I enjoyed this book much more than The Hazelwood and it's companion novel The Night Country.
What I enjoyed about those books was the world, The Hazelwood. This collection of stories brings the world to life and allows me to experience it from the point of view of the people who live there instead of our protagonist in the man series. The writing is wonderful and weird. This was a really fun short read
