This series just keeps getting better and better đź’• Absolutely obsessed with Ash and Lonan and the chaos of the whole fae realm.

This book picks up almost directly after book one finishes - Ash has vowed to forget Lonan until his dying day and has escaped Unseelie, and Lonan is trapped under the thrall of his mother, the Carlin.

I was worried that this book was just going to be a lot of them being apart and pining, and there was a lot of that in the first half, but so much else was going on that I just didn’t mind at all. Firstly, Ash rebuilding his relationship with his estranged brother was absolutely perfect to read. I also was interested in the process of him healing from the injury he sustained from escaping Unseelie - his severed arm. I think that the author deals with physical disability really well in her books (like Hunter’s missing leg in Edin) and it was harrowing to see how the injury affected Ash.

In this book, we also get Lonan’s POV, which we don’t get in book one. I think having his POV really added to the story and gave us more insight into the cruelties of the Carlin. We also spend some time with the Brid (Ash’s mother and Queen of the Seelie) in this book and oh boy, if you thought the Carlin was bad, you’re about to see a whole lot worse.

Super excited to continue this trilogy and see what the author has in store for our sweet fae boys next!

I quite liked this second entry in the series, but not as much as the first. The book focuses largely on the separation of Ash and Lonan and their experiences with
the Seelie and Unseelie respectively,
as well as various other quests to help them each regain some autonomy over the fae world. I found this less interesting than the first, which had Ash helpless and unable to trust anyone; the Fae world seemed more sinister, the stakes higher, and the otherworldliness more present. I wished we'd had more differences between the two courts rather than just temperature and food. The amnesia trope was done well in this book and I loved
Gillie and Nua.
