Though I enjoyed all the books in the trilogy, this one is easily the best. Egan does things with the concepts of time & entropy here that I've never seen before. Fairly mindblowing.

This is science fiction that really is about fictional science. To fully enjoy it, it helps to have some mathematical understanding of relativity theory. This is the third book of a trilogy, and the trilogy as a whole is a bit of a tour de force.

6 generations on and they are scifi space travelers. From clockwork to microchip, the travelers are now ready to return home and save their world. The only problem is that not everyone wants to go home, which is only a problem until an even more divisive issue arrises. Future cameras are invented, this causes a schism those who want them vs those that don’t. The messaging system destroys innovation, people with messages from their future selves telling them that they didn’t do anything prevents them from doing anything. People on a rocket come back and help them break the hold of the system. The travelers get home.

Has a nice scene where the inhabitants of the non-oriented space-time find themselves in a world that's running on the opposite direction timewise. But in general spends way too long discussing political squabbles that might as well be in a regular politics book for regular politics people.
