Multiple magical systems, characters that grow slowly, and general lore that all start off with numerous lovely but individual strands... which then weave together more and more, tighter and tighter, until they're all so skillfully linked that it's startling to remember that the first few books were mistaken as so standalone, and you're looking at a completed tapestry which is a beautiful and heart touching fantasy epic.

Zifnab, Fizban,  Zanfib, my buddy, my pal, our eternal savior and pain in the ass... you are the ultimate goat. May you always find your hat.

This dark, emotional third book from the Death Gate Cyclewas just as richly imagined and engrossing as the previous books. The authors really are unmatched in their ability to create a universe so detailed that you feel it could exist, experiences so dark and emotional that your anxiety rises with the panicking Alfred! I'm intrigued by the deepening mystery of this "higher power" and can't wait to read about the world of water!

Fire Sea is the third and darkest installment in the series, and the
best so far. A few more revelations are revealed about the Sartans, the
race who had sundered these worlds, but of course I can't tell you those
without spoiling the story.
Suffice it to say, if you liked the first two of the series, you're really going to like this one.

There is more development to Haplo's and Alfred's characters, as they are once again thrown together and are forced to put aside ancient hatred (well, Haplo anyways) to get out of another mess alive.
Weis & Hickman sure know how to spin a yarn. I love their plot developments, and I'm getting quite attached to these characters.

Great series, and I'll be right back into it for the fourth world after
a few more books.

The one in which Haplo and Alfred kind of team up, and things get really interesting. I like how this got into the whys and wherefores of how things ended up this way. Also, some delving into the Sartan and Patryn origins. Plus, bonding between Alfred and Haplo, though neither of them would admit that. I think Alfred is becoming my favorite character, which is nice to finally have. Looking forward to starting the next book in the series.

The 2 main characters continue to develop in this 3rd installment. I'm becoming very curious about the dog. Looking forward to the next installment.

The best one in this series! Everything works, no lulls, Haplo and Alfred becoming closer.
I’m re-reading the series and my 16-year old self remembered correctly - great book.
