While the unique narrative made this difficult to read at first, the story eventually picked up and became more interesting towards the end. I disliked how a lot of technological aspects of the novel weren't explained much, including those that were pretty important to the story. There also wasn't much to the story; it primarily focused on the main character (Inez) and her child Ani's life. I liked how the author didn't drag on with Ani's childhood for too long, instead cutting to parts of the story that were more important. Overall, I found The Only Ones pretty mediocre, but it turned out better than I had anticipated at the beginning.

The language is fantastic. I'm crazy about the voice of Inez.
A+++ for the author, obvs, but also the reader of the audiobook, because it's like a year later and I still have lines from this book pop into my head in her voice and make me start to tear up.
Inez is a bit like Charlie from Flowers for Algernon mashed with the father from The Road except he had it easy because he didn't have to worry about getting his kid into a good school. Another book exploring the future of reproductive technology.
