Well written, very well organized current event book. Unfortunately, it seems like there is very little information actually available about Putin, but Gessen did a really great job laying out some of the ways that Putin's regime controls the country. I realize that putting notes/sources at the end makes the book more appealing to some people, but for me it made the book feel a lot less rigorous than it is. I think the book could have benefited from a few charts or graphics too. Otherwise though, the book was a passionately written description of the way that one man has taken charge of one of the largest countries in the world.

This was a wonderfully written and insightful look into what came together to make putin. Highly recommended for anyone interested.

Interesting but not exactly juicy. Gave me a much better idea of what was happening in Russia between 1990 - 2012. It’s surprising that Putin’s regime lasted another ten years and now has invaded Ukraine.
