A field expedition looking for blue diamonds leads to death and unexpected turn of events to all involved.

I read this when the book first came out and reread because it is always a book I think of when I go to favorite stories. The story was more technical then I remembered and a bit dated given it was written years ago. I still like Amy the best in the story, I thought the ways she communicated with her handler Peter was written so well it was easy to visualize. Still an excellent read.

A very fun, if a bit outmoded adventure story!

Michael Crichton can certainly write a thriller. The tech in here is pretty dated and kind of ridiculous now but the story itself it pretty good. I was a bit disappointed in how quickly the end came up but it was pretty satisfying. I was also kind of disappointed that no one died, but that's ok. There were a lot of things in that jungle that wanted to kill those people.

Winner! I liked Congo even better than my first M.C. read, The Andromeda Strain (which I also enjoyed). This one had a lot more 'character meat' if you will, to grab onto. I found myself becoming much more attached to them, which made the whole experience better. And gosh, AMY! I loved her so much. And in the same unthinkable way I've made it all these years without reading Congo (or any of Michael Crichton's novels), I somehow missed the film adaptation. (Dylan Walsh! Ernie Hudson! Laura Linney! Tim Curry!) So, as soon as my kid finishes reading, we are both going to watch the movie...and we've already decided more Michael
Crichton reading is required. Highly recommended if you're into science/tech thrillers!

One of my Crichton favorites.
