It's okay. I liked Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park better. But maybe good summer reading?
This wasn't as gripping as the previous books, but all in all a good thrilling read for anyone interested in primate research.
I think Congo could have been a really good book if it were not so bogged down in technical jargon. I almost gave up less than halfway through because I just could not manage to get into it. It did get better once I got further into the book, but even as late as 20 pages from the end I was getting yanked out of the story to slog through a bunch of technical jargon that I didn’t understand so wasn’t useful to the story to me and then had to struggle to get back into it. It really kinda ruined the ending of the book for me and just generally made me really frustrated with it. The overall plot was good, there was a good amount of suspense, tension, action, and mystery to make it mostly entertaining, but it was so challenging to get really immersed in.

Underwhelming and Disney-esque conclusion
Decent techno-thriller.

This wasn't a great book, but it was paced well for reading on a plane. All of the Crichton novels I've read, I've read on a plane.
Michael Crichton is really good at making tough scientific concepts both digestable and intriguing. He's also really good at writing suspense. 2 + 2 = 4. As in stars. :) My only reservation is that his characters are a little wooden on the page. They serve the plot, but they feel passive and disingenuous.
Interesting story. I watched the movie a long time ago and I remember very little, but I do know that while I recall the movie being mediocre, I really enjoyed this read. It is a simple story, but I enjoyed how (in true Crichton fashion) we took a deep dive into two separate areas of science in this fictional story.
