This was a reread for me, and I was pleasantly surprised to find one of my most favorite scenes ever written in regency was in THIS book! I couldn’t remember the specific, just the awesomeness. I have made a huge mental note and will be revisiting that scene from time to time. Here’s a quick glimpse:

{Every eye turned to Catherine, including Miss Glafford’s and Miss Clarent’s. Crispin tensed. This was an all-out attack. If Catherine accepted and fell short, she’d be seen as a presumptuous failure. If she declined to perform, she’d be deemed inferior in the eyes of everyone in the room. “You don’t have to do this,” Crispin said in her ear. “The gauntlet has been thrown, my lord,” she answered as she rose to her feet. }

Crispin got himself into a mess of a marriage by kissing a stranger…and being caught. While it was not Catherine’s choice, she is grateful to be out from under her uncle’s abusive tyranny. Together they learn that love can grow in the most desperate of circumstances.

I absolutely love the Lancaster and Jonquil series by Sarah M. Eden! The writing is fun and diverse and sweet. Her characters are beautifully human.

(Crispin is a Cavratt, but considered an honorary Jonquil)
