Normally I like to read the book, then watch the movie/show. As fun as the book is, glad I watched first. The book doesn't do things justice, you really need to see it! The worm in the tequila for example.
It's funny though, in some parts it reminded me of my attempts at diary writing. "We had some curry for tea, and then we went to bed." About as descriptive as I got.

I read this because I’m going to Machu Picchu soon, and it’s entertaining but in no way informative. It is also almost a word for word transcription of the show, which is good, but didn’t necessarily need to be experienced twice. Reads like a kinder Bill Bryson, though still by no means politically correct, and is at times laugh out loud funny.

Tip: if you haven't seen An Idiot Abroad, I'd watch that first. It's an amazing companion to the series, but I think it would be a little weird to read the book if you haven't seen the series and understand Karl already, and the series format.
If you have seen it and you liked it, this book is great. It doesn't feel repetitive at all (and I just watched the series so, it's still really fresh in my mind); you get a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff and more of Karl's thoughts on travel, including some really great dry, self-deprecating humor. Definitely have a go.

Karl Pilkington became my spirit animal after reading this book.
Jokes aside, this book is really nice and a fun addition to the tv series.
Some of the stuff Karl has written in this book is also in the show, but most of it is new.
If you like the series then you will probably like this too!
