Incredible read on death and grief must read, and will revisit come back in tough times, along with "mortality", stoicism and existentialist books.

Lots to think about here - suffering, assisted suicide, death anxiety, knowing something intellectually vs feeling it fully. This was pure, honest, and the couple was so in love

I read this as part of assigned reading for a class. It is so beautifully written and describes the grief around losing a spouse so well. It has made me want to read more of Dr. Yalom’s writings.

Such a great insight into the end of life written by a couple so clearly in love until the last breath.

I don't know if this is necessarily Irv's best book or even my personal favorite (as I still have plenty to read), but I do think that this book is his most important.
Irv and his late wife, Marilyn, explore and grapple with death and grief after a life-long marriage (sixty five years!) together and then from Irv's perspective after Marilyn's passing. The writing is powerful and evocative throughout, from both Irv's and Marilyn's perspectives and I found it especially interesting to see the ways in which they diverged and converged throughout the story, in both thought and language. I truly appreciate Irv's revelations towards the end of the book and I find it as a very moving, unique experience, in the way that grief is for everyone. I also am very thankful that Irv is very intimate in this book and frank about his own beliefs and experiences of faith and death and the "afterlife" which keeps the process of dying, death, and grief meaningful.
It is not an easy book to read and I found myself very emotional from time to time. Yet, I find that a strength of the book. I find myself wanting to read more of Irv's books now, though I will likely take a break to read something else. Either way, it is a great gift to have read more of his work and I highly recommend this book to anyone who may find it of interest.
