Seki is up to his antics again, hardly ever paying attention during class and having a bag packed full of games instead of schoolwork. He tries to impress Yokoi with a magic trick, Japanese chess with a seemingly tragic, heroic story, table top golf, zombie Othello, and so much more. The class also takes a trip to a camp, where Yokoi gets a rare glimpse at her neighbor’s childhood. Back in class, the two are noticed by Goto, who desperately wants to be Yokoi’s friend, but thinks all they’re up to is sneaking kisses and loving glances during class.

Similarly to the first volume, most of this story takes place inside Yokoi’s head. She invents a storyline for the Japanese chess pieces based young the kanji Seki has drawn. She spends a lot more time thinking about what Seki’s doing and even less time paying attention. The addition of Goto, plus taking the story outside the walls of the classroom, was really needed to add some depth to the story, and provides a lot of opportunity to continue with the humor of the story. I think Seki’s “I did a magic trick, be impressed” face is my favorite so far in this series. It’s just so cute and outlandish.

All of Seki’s games continue to be beautiful and drawn with a lot of detail. Yes, this story is ultimately about not paying attention in class, and how that negatively affects Yokoi, but this is a worry purchase for Seki’s continued antics and the humor throughout the story.

This is so silly. Seki is constantly doing something goofy at his desk (like stacking chess pieces on top of each other and patting and taking care of a pair of cats) and it drives his classroom neighbor, and honestly she’s a super busybody, up the wall. She freaks out and ends up getting a scolding each and every time. Don’t know how much more to this story there is, but it was overall funny and sweet.

So... I'm pretty sure Seki is a wizard being raised in a muggle world. He is also my new hero. I can't wait to see where this series goes!

Such a fun, unique plot, which tells the story of two students during class. One goofs around and the other becomes distracted by the first. I'm enjoying the character growth, but it's so odd to have only two characters being focused on.

Cute little story about this girl who is trying to pay attention to her teachers in school but her classmate keeps distracting her. But the funny thing is that the distractions are all extremely obnoxious ways for the boy to keep himself entertained in class. You follow them along through different classes and distractions. I liked it, found it rather repetitive at times and am unsure if I’ll continue on.

Who knew that you could go on an adventure just by sitting at your school desk?! Well if you have Seki as a desk neighbor you would! I enjoyed this book because it's silly and the desk adventures are creative. The story doesn't go anywhere in terms of development but I am tempted to keep reading to find out if the story does develop.

This review is for the entire series (Vol 1-10)

Lighthearted and fun. It's literally just a kid goofing off in class but the goofing off itself reaches new and impossible heights of silliness.
