Who doesn’t love a second chance romance? Okay it may actually be more of a third times the charm romance, but either way it was such a great read!!

Thena and Thorne met and fell in love in school, but he decided to follow the family into law, she disagreed and they went their separate ways. Only to find each again 7 years later in Seattle, but after having a night filled with passion they went their separate ways again. Obviously love finds a way and they end up back in each other’s lives for a third time and despite trying to remain friends things heat up anyway.

I loved the way this book followed their current journey of love while also telling us about their past, it was a perfect blend.

Thank you NetGalley and Forever for a copy of this book. This is my honest voluntary review!

* I received an ARC of this book from Net Galley. Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this book. All thoughts are my own.

I enjoyed this book but I just didn’t really like the main character. She felt whiny and everything was about her (granted she was trying to save her job). But I loved Thorne. I thought he was a really good character. The story overall was good but a tad boring. I will say I didn’t guess right away who the C. L. Garland was but it felt like it got forgotten a little in the middle of the book.

I had so much fun reading this! It was quirky and silly and heartfelt, with lots of tongue-in-cheek literary references. I loved the small town of Laurel, which was very Stars Hollow-esque, and the As You Like It Cafe, with all of the eccentric and nosy regulars. The story was part romance and part cozy small town mystery, but ultimately it was about our main character Athena learning about herself and deciding which way she wants her future to go.

I will say that it took me a while to sink into the writing, as the dialogue in particular is very stylized and often difficult to believe. But the more I read, the more I was able to just roll with it, and I found myself laughing a lot at the way Athena’s Brontë-obsessed mind worked. Second chance romances aren’t always my thing, but this one really worked for me and I was rooting for Athena and Thorne to overcome their pasts and get back together. Reading the flashbacks of their relationship brought me back to my own time completing a literature degree and falling in love, and all of that nostalgia made me feel so connected to the story.

Overall a delightful book, if a little predictable at times. It’s clear that Annie Sereno has a true love of literature, as do her characters, and I might even have been convinced to try “Wuthering Heights”… or maybe I’ll just reread “Jane Eyre” for the third time.

Thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Athena heads home to her small town on a sabbatical as a professor to write a book. C.L. Garland is the author of spicy literary retellings and no one knows her identity. Athena decides she’s going to uncover the identity of Garland and write about it.
.
She is expecting a quite few months waitressing and writing. What she doesn’t expect is her ex, and former love of her life to be in town and nothing goes as planned.
.
While I figured out the mystery from the beginning this is still a delightful read with a second chance romance. The author’s love for classics is evident and shine through in every page.

Blame It on the Brontes is a dual POV third chance romance. Yes you read that right! If two is not enough for you, then this book is for you. One of the most fascinating parts of the book is to see Athena and Thorne explore this chance. There's so much history behind them. Could sparks ignite again? Or were they never truly extinguished? While I expected to like Athena over Thorne - even though I don't love Jane Eyre like she does - I ended up liking Thorne more.

Even though it's dual POV, which is good because there are tons of secrets being hidden, I do feel like it's mostly centered on Athena. So while we need the dual POV to figure out what they're hiding from each other - and their true history - it still felt a bit skewed. I enjoyed their interactions and chemistry, but I think I became more involved in the mystery element of the plot - the unrevealing of the author.
