I wish I got more from the other women and less of the men
But I did like it, some things in the writing pissed me off but it's minor

The premise of this book intrigued me, but it fell short. Changing narrators/perspectives was hard to follow, and I expected more of a story about the women in the story, not all about Achilles. The end was unnecessarily graphic as well.

This book was an interesting insight to the events of Troy. I read the entire thing in one go, which wasn’t a great idea because I stayed up so late!! I did enjoy it, though, so it was a night well spent haha. Recommend!

the more i think abt it the more i dislike it. writing was straightforward to the point of being bland, characterizations were inconsistent and often obscure. i don't mind myths narrated with a contemporary slant (for a story meant to give voice to the dirtiest and darkest part of war, a less lyrical style is perhaps more fitting), but the dialogue was often really obviously and annoyingly british. the first section of the book was the strongest because it was, ironically, the only one to actually focus on briseis - the remainder of the book was just a watered-down rewrite attempt of achilles's myth. even briseis, even the writer, concedes at the end that briseis failed to have a story of her own outside of achilles. why are any of us even here then! mostly it just made me want to reread the song of achilles
