This was just the kind of book I didn't know I was searching for. First off, I don't usually get into YA books, so I was skeptical about this one. Wow was I wrong. I can't wait for the sequel to be released next month!

How to Hang a Witch kept me interested and engaged from page 1 to 350! The pace captured the intensity of the story. There were several intriguing characters with very realistic traits, both good and bad, characters that demonstrated the dichotomy that all humans have to acknowledge within themselves. This book also highlights the connections we have to our past and perhaps how important it is to acknowledge the sins of our forefathers, the complexity of society, and human motivations, so that we can learn from them. Overall great read!

I thought that this book should be my cup of tea but I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it a lot more than I even expected!

I liked the premise of this book and the beginning of this story very much, but it became a bit ridiculous about half way through with the ghost relationship and found myself skimming the last 1/4 of the book.

I really enjoyed the mystery part of this book, learning about the history of her family. I liked having to unravel the story piece by piece. The story had me enraptured from the beginning to end while trying to figure things out. Some things were predictable but for the most part it didn’t matter I still wanted to see what was on the next page. The fact that the author is a 12th generation of Mather was really interesting, I almost want to know how much of the book was true and what parts she made up? Is the house she is describing a house she knew? The magic in this book was really interesting and how it played out. Who has magic? What kind of magic do they have? Do they use it for evil? Or are they good?

Now off to the things I kind of disliked…I had to remind myself over and over again that Sam was only 15 in this book because I was getting very frustrated with her acting so juvenile. She did some really incredibly stupid things in this book. Another thing that got to me.. which always gets to me… is the love triangle trope. I really felt it was unnecessary. I won’t tell you what it is, or who it is, however you will see it coming, from really far away!

I have to admit: the premise of the book, even before I started to read, was amazing. I don't exactly know why I loved the concept of this novel, but I did. Every page had me dying to read more. In fact, I couldn't put the book down; I read almost all of it in one sitting. It was so late at night (close to 2am), that delirious-me could barely fight to stay awake. The story is unique, Sam's character is interesting, and the entire backdrop of an old town haunted by a dark past and dark magic was fascinating. It was one of those stories that had me constantly wondering "What is Sam going to do next?”
