I don’t know why I have gone so long without reading this. I absolutely adore this story. It’s a love story with eerie creepiness behind it it’s everything you want, and a good love story in my opinion. The Beginning that’s how you start a story. The copy that I own is a special edition and it’s so pretty I’m obsessed it gave me spring vibes. I’m so glad I read this classic for springtime because it does scream springtime to me and I will be probably re-watching the movie and listening to the play at some point in time again this March.
Also this does read as a classic but not boring. The phantom walked so masked men could run. You won’t have me believe any other way. If you haven’t read this already I recommend reading it.
Here are the quotes I loved if my review does not do it justice alone
“THE Opera ghost really existed. He was not, as was long believed, a creature of the imagination of the artists, the superstition of the managers, or a product of the absurd and impressionable brains of the young ladies of the ballet, their mothers, the box-keepers, the cloak-room attendants or the concierge. Yes, he existed in flesh and blood, although he assumed the complete appearance of a real phantom ; that is to say, of a spectral shade.”
“There is some music that is so terrible that it consumes all those who approach it.”
“The requiem mass is not at all gay," Erik's voice resumed,”
“Love me and you shall see! All I wanted was to be loved for myself. If you loved me I should be as gentle as a lamb; and you could do anything with me that you pleased."
“He had a heart that could have held the empire of the world; and, in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar. Ah, yes, we must needs pity the Opera ghost.”

Would love to read the original French version some day!
Diferente do que eu esperava, mas ainda sim uma leitura bem divertida e triste.
After having seen two different theater adaptations, so actually listening to the OG thing felt way too long with some unnecessary scenes cause you can figure out the plot with less aswell
Also it was kinda confusing from what point of view it was told and then when you think you got it, it switched
But other than that it was still very fun to get more info
