This was a solid book.
I enjoyed every second I spent reading this book and I can't wait to start the next one.
I loved the characters, the world building and the story.
However, I wouldn't say this is my favourite book, maybe I've read too many fantasy YA books and should try something new. Lots of what happened in the book felt familiar to me. Don't get me wrong the story was very original, but I just feel like something is missing from it for me.
So, I'm giving it 4.5 stars because I did really enjoy reading this book, its just that something little didn't work for me (I'm just no sure what)

I've been reading so much dark, epic fantasy and horror recently that this was such a refreshing change.

Yes it's YA and it definitely read like YA at times, but I still really enjoyed it. The world and story were rich and immersive, although I do wish we'd had a bit more time in the competition at the start.

Enjoyed the first part the most. Wish we had gotten more time/details with the competition. The transition to part two felt a little jarring and the romance too instant to be invested in the love story, especially compared to the authors previous series. Still, it was an entertaining enough read. Although I could have done without the ableism and the stereotypical/awkward walking scene towards the end.

nigdy w życiu nie spodziewałabym się, że aż tak spodoba mi się ta książka. MAIA I EDAN BOZEEEEE KOCHAM ICH dawno nie miałam takiego fangirlu jak przy nich

This book was worth all the hype!

I really really enjoyed reading this. The writing is quite beautiful. The story starts of very calm and maybe even peaceful. But when Maia starts her journey the story gets a quicker pace. When there is something happening the writing and pace adjust and that is just amazing. Lim knows how to keep your attention to the story. Her character and world buildup are detailed but not to long for the story. The romance is also just the right amount. I just LOVED IT!
