This one redeemed Katherine center for me for the trash that was The Bodyguard. A really beautiful story of forgiveness and family in a hallmark, cheesy, makes you cringe at times way.

I only loved it fractionally less than The Bodyguard due to what I felt was a slightly rushed ending. Clearly, Katherine Center goes for strong, bad-ass female characters who are not good at leaning into their femininity which is ok!! But why can’t we have both? Some of the plot was also very heavy handed in the sexism aspect.
What she EXCELS at is writing men (which…duh). The Rookie as a sweet, sensitive, communicative, cookie-baking gem of a man has set the romance man bar high. He’s not in my top 5 favorite, but he’s certainly in the top 20.
I also loved the exploration of deeper topics in this book, especially around forgiveness and the importance of ultimately forgiving yourself to move forward with your own happiness.
There are some heavy-hitting topics around drug abuse and sexual assault that aren’t mentioned up top, so just a note for my content warning girlies!
