Witchful Thinking by Celestine Martin

A really outstanding story of paranormal black love. Impressively enjoyable. Great narration at 3X.

Shouldn't the reference to  Family Matters be to 'Stefan Urkel'? Not sure that was pronounced right but maybe it was the high speed pronunciation....

This was a cute enjoyable read. And it had all of my favorite themes but it just didn’t grab me. I do plan to finish the series though.

"Witchful Thinking" by Celestine Martin is a very cute romance between a merman and a witch.
Lucy Caraway lives in a quaint small town populated by fantastical creatures and magic. Her life has grown stagnant, teaching and hoping for more in life. So, she and her sisters use their magic as witches to make a wish. Lucy's wish is one that will add excitement to her life. While attending the local festival, she runs into Alex, a merman and one of her best friends from high school who has been out traveling the world. Alex is stopping by for a short period of time but he feels a spark with Lucy and his parents have purchased him a home that he doesn't want. He recruits Lucy to help him fix up the house for sale and as they spend more time together they get closer and a spark begins to blossom between them.
Martin creates an extremely cute romance with a fantastical bent. Lucy and Alex are so easy to care for and their relationship and how it develops is extremely cute. As with most romances, the third act struggles can be a bit frustrating though I did appreciate that it felt like they were set up well throughout the rest of the book. As with many romances, it all came down to communication, which I often find frustrating. I did wish that the fantastical elements were a bit more present. There were definitely moments that used Lucy as a witch and Alex as a merman but it was often very easy to forget that the world was fantastical and just think of it as contemporary. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for a cute romance with a slight fantastical bent.

This was a very cute paranormal romance. It is a second chance romance with friends-to-lovers. This trope pairing is one of the few ways I can enjoy second-chance romance. This was just the right amount of witchy and romance-y for me. I believed in and rooted for the two main characters. I also loved how the author set up the remaining sister’s plot lines. It was thoughtful but didn’t take away from the actual plot line. I look forward to picking up more from this author.

Not my usual genre of book but I still enjoyed this one!

I would have liked for this to have more comedy as the synopsis seemed to lend it's self to more comedy leaning novel. Unfortunately, this was much more romantic and less funny. Romance is not my typical genre as I find them incredibly boring, but this one kept my interest. I think the overall magical plot made me want to keep reading and find out what was going to happen in the end.

I will be continuing the series to find out what happens to the next Caraway~

Really enjoyed this, read it in one sitting. Lucy and Alex definitely had chemistry and the slowburn was fun. The magic wish was to cause the story to happen and the characters themselves don't understand it so magic isn't a main feature. The supernatural element isn't very fleshed out, but that wasn't a problem for me.

Lucy's cousin Ursula and fiancé Lincoln are hateable in this book and Lucy is a saint for how calmly she takes their bs. I enjoyed Alex's family and Lucy's sisters (Sirena and Callie). I know the second book is focused on Ursula but I'm not interested in her at all and I'd much rather read about Sirena or Callie so I'll be skipping that one.
