The Secret Life of Animals: What They Feel, How They Communicate – Discovering a Hidden World

I picked up this book because I really liked "The Hidden Life of Trees." I found that, even though I enjoyed this book, I didn't feel the same about it as I did his previous book. I think it's largely because this one is filled with much more anecdotal material than "The Hidden Life of Trees." The strength of that book was it's mix of anecdotal and scientific material, whereas with this book there is much less scientific study to back him up. This is no way means I think his argument is weak or invalidates the conclusions he comes to; it was simply an expectation that wasn't met, which I found mildly disappointing. It's still worth reading - just don't expect the same experience with it as with "The Hidden Life of Trees."
It had good points and information but I did have a hard time getting into it.

Really interesting book that covers a wide range of topics! I just wish the chapters had been longer and there had been more scientific studies to balance out the anecdotes
Sehr schöne Geschichten woraus man einiges mitnehmen kann. Jedoch zieht sich das Buch sehr. Ich musste mich teils sehr anstrengen, es durchzulesen…
The second book in this series, after [b:The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate: Discoveries from a Secret World|28256439|The Hidden Life of Trees What They Feel, How They Communicate Discoveries from a Secret World|Peter Wohlleben|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1464281905l/28256439._SX50_.jpg|48295241], follows a similar approach, looking into the behaviors and minds of animals, both domestic and wild. Although some is based on the author's personal experiences (he is a forester in Germany, as well as living on a farm), there is plenty that is based on research as well. Good read for someone who loves animals.
