I have mixed thoughts about this book. Overall, I found it a bit difficult to get through; parts of it are more academic analysis-y than I expected or wanted. It’s also hard to read about the horrors that women go through in such a great quantity (important of course, but certainly doesn’t qualify the book as an easy read). It is very insightful and has some beautiful lines and made me think, though, which I appreciated greatly.

"the body's truth is indelibly engraved, whether behind a closed door or in a dark place. what happens in the dark still happens, even if you can't see it."

"if i have learned anything from my study of empty consent, it's that i must turn on the lights and welcome every part of me into the room. if i want my yes to mean yes, there can be no locked doors in the house of me."

"intimacy has little to do with romance. it is a closeness to another person that requires closeness with oneself. it is not watching lightning strike from the window but being struck by it."
