Any book written by people that were in the middle of beating their kid on the day they were arrested for child endangerment because they had cages in the basement for their children, gets the lowest rating no matter how much I enjoyed the story.

A good comfy read. You know you'll get a great story, characters and world setting with the Eddings. Throw in a dash of magic, some time travel and there you have it.

Overly long and repetitive. The story was good, although at times it was easy to guess what was going to happen.

The first ever adult fantasy book I ever read.
I blame this for my love of this genre!
Will re-read this year for sure!

This book takes a lot of flack from fans of Eddings, and like all of his later books, exhibits themes and strangely similar characters from Belgariad. That said, it's fun, fairly light, and self contained, and that makes it charming, in its own right.

I dunno. This story was great the first two times I read it in the Belgariad and the Mallorean. But somehow, I didn't like it as much with the third set of the same but renamed characters.

Didn't enjoy the characters and far too much info dumping about world stuff in unnatural ways.

This is easily one of my favorite books of all time. Single volume, high fantasy at it's best.
