3.5 stars. I really like the story and the direction it is going in. I feel like there is genuine progression each chapter, even though it's usually bracketed by sex. They aren't huge steps towards the final conflict but I don't mind the meandering pace. I think it works for this story. Though I do wish there was a little more punch to some of the small conflicts that happened in this book.

I like these characters, emotional constipation and all. Are they great communicators? No! But I do think they genuinely care about each other in ways that perhaps I wouldn't understand since I am not them. I hope Cai finally figures his shit out because it's verging on the point of exhaustion. Daddy issues through more than 2 books is a bit much. Kirby is great, he's funny and cute. He's someone easy to resonate with. Harlen was okay. He didn't give me anything special, which brings me to my last point.

I do agree with the general consensus that this should have stuck with Kirby's POV. I just really liked Kirby and sticking with his POV makes sense as he's a good stand-in for the reader. He doesn't understand much of anything happening any more than we the reader does. So it made sense to keep reading the story through his eyes. So, either it needed to stick with Kirby's POV or switched POVs with chapters from the beginning. Not whole books dedicated to one character, though I understand why it needed to be done this way.

This is book 2 of the DragonKin series and the first book, DragonRider, should be read before reading this book.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I hadn't read the first book before getting this book, so I read DragonRider first and it destroyed me (in the best possible way.) It's probably my book of the year, that's how much I loved it.

DragonSeer was a very good sequel. I didn't love it quite as much as I loved DragonRider, but it was still a very solid read. It's the second book in a trilogy and I do think it goes through the same second book pains that a lot of trilogies do: that the second book has more loose ends that don't get resolved by the end of the book and is, overall, slower than the first and third books.

Spoilers:
SpoilerThere were multiple outside conflicts in this book that didn't really get settled by the end of the book (will the dragon eggs hatch? will the heroes defeat the senedd? what's really going on with Eerie and the tylwyth?) and one of those didn't even really get introduced until about the 60% point of this book. I also felt the book was, oddly, missing a centralized conflict. The trio's relationship is established by the start of this book and never seriously gets disturbed in this book; I found myself looking for a rift/repair within the relationship somewhere, but it never came.

Of the three MCs, I also think I personally resonate least with Harlen, whose POV we get in this book. That's not to say I dislike him, I just relate to Kirby and Cai more. I loved Kirby in DragonRider and I am really, really interested to get Cai's POV in the third book.

Overall this was a very enjoyable read and has left me highly anticipating the next book in the series!

First of all, I'd like to thank the author for the "previous" section at the beginning of this book. Honestly it was my favorite part and saved me from having to reread book 1. Not that I wouldn't have but I also have zero patience and needed to devour Harlan's perspective immediately.
I am so pleased with how this story is progressing. I LOVE this triad and can't wait to see what happens next. (Also give me baby dragons!)

I loved this addition to this series - this time from Harlen's POV.

This triad and the drama's they are facing are intriguing right from the first word and as we learn more about who they are and what they will become it's just addicting.

Harlen, Kirby and Cai, the longer they are together, the stronger they become and bring on Book 3

This cannot be read as a standalone as Book 1 ( from Kirby's POV) has the world building you need for this series to work!
