This story is emotional and powerful. I learned so much about the horrors that governments inflicted on indigenous peoples. I appreciate that amidst the horror, this story instills some hope about the future. I like that the story and perspectives jump around, but each is still immersive enough that I didn’t get lost

Five Little Indians follows several survivors of a residential school as they reckon with the traumas they endured and try to move on. Each leaves the "school" in a different way at a different time, but they are intertwined by their experiences and resurface in each other's lives. Alternating points of view and flashing back to their younger selves.

As more children's bodies are discovered on the grounds of these horrifying institutions, this book gives a look into the atrocities that led there and what happened to those who survived. It discusses the lack of support given after, the reactions of families receiving their children back, the ways in which culture was lost and held onto, and much more. This book is important, now and always.
