decent for a 101! i think it falls short in a couple places — some of the definitions seem a bit too definitive for what the words actually are. i think when mentioning/defining “transsexual” you need to include that it’s contested language and many trans folks today are uncomfy with it, and Getty did not. there was a bit of outdated language imo, and also i wish we’d stop focusing on ~famous theys~ as ppl to look up to. but ig, like many trans-101-esque content, this does more or less what it needs to do, but it leans towards the assimilationist side, and i don’t feel personally connected to it.

Excellent book. Very witty, humorous, and snarky. Good reference for those who are open to using nonbinary pronouns but are anxious about it.

this is a good beginner's guide to they/them pronouns but i think i was hoping it would do more than it did. a lot of practical advice but i'm tryna deconstruct gender in my mind and i'm struggling. but they did say practice which. is mayhaps the only way.

This is a topic I don't naturally relate to. I appreciate it, but don't fully understand it. That said, after reading this book and seeing the various reasons and frames of reference I get it, better than I did. I certainly like the idea of not focusing on the gender and being more efficient by using a neutral pronoun. Some of the sexual aspects of it seem more in your face than needed, but again I get the import of that aspect, if you have been oppressed or singled out because of your sexual preference.

All of that said, the communication style works really well. It is common, but not speaking down to people. It is a positive book.
