I loved this book. It was such a fun read (in German at any rate). My only complaint is that it should have included a glossary of some kind, a who's' who, with date and place of birth and who was married to whom and when.
I think it took me twice as long too read as it should have because I kept looking someone or something up.
I've read quite a few of the authors and seen many of pictures mentioned in the book, which is what made it such fun.

Loved January, struggled by June, dead bored by September. The format is fun but gets just too tired as the year goes on.
Letzten Endes eine positive Überraschung. Nachdem ich die ersten 60 Seiten absolut unerträglich fand, bin ich dann doch irgendwie reingekommen. Faszinierende Struktur und faszinierender Rechercheaufwand, und teils durch den Spott der Erzählstimme sogar amüsant, aber als Gesellschaftsportrait des Jahres 1913 zu platt, um - meiner Meinung nach - für mehr als eine Wiederholung der Need-to-Knows großer Künstler und Schriftsteller (und ganz selten, -innen) des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts in Europa herzuhalten.
