I think both men are asshole, deuce bag, whatever unlikeable guy is called. And Tess, perhaps because of the time setting of the book is written, is desperately wanted to have a guy to spend the rest of her life with. To be honest, I have more sympathy on Alec D’Uberville than Angel Clare. I mean, your wife was trying to be honest, and you just left. That’s suck!

I also feel a sense of paganism in the book, perhaps it’s an ealry rise of atheism in the english literature.

Overall, I skimmed quite numbered of pages since too much unnecessary details.

Can't blame me for liking sad prose. This is so good that it hurts *sigh*.

# slut shamed

Book club read, but I could not care to continue.

My longstanding hatred of this book is based on the fact that I was forced to read it three times: once by my mother, once in high school English, and once in college Victorian lit survey course. Never again. Never ever ever.
