A few months ago, I read another of Nicole Baart's book (Everything We Didn't Say) and I really liked it, so I decided I would probably like another of her books. I did not like Little Broken Things nearly as much as the first book of Baart's that I read. Little Broken Things reads like a long and confusing dysfunctional family soap opera. The characters weren't particularly likable and some of the plot elements made no sense. In addition, at almost 400 pages, the book just seemed to to go on and on and on. The ending was a little weird and the characters reactions to it seemed unrealistic. I have probably over rated this book, and if it were possible I would have given it 2 1/2 stars. It isn't the worst book of this genre that I have read, but certainly not the best.

I consider it my great fortune to have had the chance to read LITTLE BROKEN THINGS ahead of the publishing date because I get to tell everyone to read it. This is a story about people who are both aware and unaware of the past that has made them who they are, that had has an impact on their relationship, and about how to repair both the big and little broken things. Somehow, Nicole Baart merges a highly suspenseful plot with achingly beautiful prose to create a story of beauty and anticipation. I was hooked and thoroughly enjoyed the read from the first to the last page.

If you took this book because of "Pretty little things" - you will be disappointed. It's not as witty or as mysterious as you'd expect. On the good note, it's not a very difficult read - just a small of web of family affairs. And if after 100 pages you think that you know The Truth. Think again and after that think just one more time and you'll be right on time for a happy end.

3.5 stars. Although I saw the ending coming from 1,000,000 miles away, I still enjoyed the semi psychological thriller about a family torn apart and their search to return home to each other.

Very easy to figure out who Everlee’s father is - and I never figure things out in books!
The story was just absolutely ridiculous - dropping a child off without any explanation and changing her name. The Donovan bit in the story was not wrapped up well - way too abrupt.
So many of the characters were just completely irrational. I couldn’t stand Liz the entirety of the book either. Ethan was the only character with somewhat redeeming qualities.

Little Broken Things is the story of a troubled family with strained relationships and secrets. It was worth reading, though it wasn't a stand out novel in my eyes.

3.5 out of 5 star read for me!

Thanks to Netgalley and Atria Books for allowing me the egalley to read and give my honest review.
