This would be an okay book for a middle grade reader who is looking for a quick read. It teaches a little bit about history, and the story itself was interesting enough.
My daughters favorite I Survived. I mentioned reading one soon. She checked it out of school library and brought it home for me to read. I appreciate books that can be fiction enough to draw a child’s attention but also makes history interesting. This book did just that. It had me asking her questions and she would say just keep reading.
I read this book aloud to my kiddos after we read, What was the Hindenburg. We have been fascinated by zeppelins and the Hindenburg in particular.
This one was super fun and exciting -- loved the spy angle. The choice to have Hugo and his family returning to the US from Kenya rather than Europe was an interesting way to remove them from the politics of being European expats during the rise of Nazism.

In this book, Huego is more of a hero than what Lauren Tarshis has made the boys out to be in the other books so far in the series. He saves lives, quick on his toes, and helps stop Nazi. I think this book was one of her more researched and written books.

This is the 3rd I Survived book I’ve read. Personally, I don’t care for them, but my 4th graders love them.
I will admit to knowing very little about the Hindenburg Disaster before reading this. All I knew was that a dirigible crashed at some point during/near the start of World War II (and, like the author, I also believed that blimps and zeppelins were the same thing).
I liked this one, but I kept thinking of that scene from "Kiki's Delivery Service" when she saves her friend after the dirigible crashes in their town, and now I want to watch that movie again.
