Death Without Company is a very interesting book. It starts with Lucien insisting that the dead woman at the retirement community was his wife, and that she was poisoned. Both turn out to be true.

The investigation into her death goes from complicated to dangerous and back to complicated. Anyone involved in the case seems to be attacked or otherwise in danger of dying, from the granddaughter to the HP officer, from a family practitioner to a retired sheriff.

As with other Johnson mysteries, the obvious is not the obvious, and there are a few twists involving paternity and who gets to inherit what sort of money, and whether someone is really dead and, if so, who killed them.
