I enjoyed this but I cannot get past Julia Quinn writing a r4pe and pretending like it wasn’t one and that it’s all fine because the r4pist was upset.

I am flabbergasted.

I was having a wonderful time, enjoying the story and the characters. And then, a little over halfway, it all started to go downhill. Daphne and Simon were caught in a compromising position, and so Simon agreed to a duel to the death with her brother, Anthony. Daphne proceeds to manipulate the situation and guilts Simon into marrying her, where he informs her he can't have children. Yes, his choice of wording was misleading - as it is a won't not can't situation - and when Daphne discovered that discrepency, she had no respect for his boundaries. Yes, she's entitled to be upset by that misdirection, but she should still respect that children was out of the question.

Instead, Daphne does the worst possible thing. She rapes him, and violates all his boundaries.

I am done with this book. I am done with this series.

So I decided to start reading the Duke and I, and I’m still not sure whether I liked it or not. What I did certainly like was how strong and smart Daphne was. She knocked a man out and knocked another to the ground. She was witty and knew what she was doing. She figured out the truth really fast, but I just hated it when she raped Simon, especially after he was still sleeping after getting drunk that ruined her for me. ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE DID NOT REGRET IT. Before that, they had a great chemistry.
Simon was adorable in this book. He is portrayed as a duke who is silent and strong, but then you read his pov’s and you read his struggles and you understand his choices so much better.
Their plan to fake-court was discovered quickly by Anthony which was very good and I loved his relationship with Simon before the fake dating (and I completely understand Anthony’s rage).
Violet is a star, just like Lady Danbury, I love the way how she was able to handle all of her children.
The little snippets of Lady Whistledown were hilarious to read.

Dearest Gentle Reader, this book wasn’t what I was expecting.   While it did bring to life the characters and their stories, I feel as though it fell rather flat compared to the show.  I did enjoy the epilogues and the audiobook was narrated rather nicely, I don’t think I will be continuing this book series as of now.  It was entertaining just not really worth it to me, perhaps I’ll revisit this series later though.

I love the way the book is written, however, the sexual assault soured it for me.  Daphne is a proper rapist; she talks about how him getting drunk is her chance to get what she wants and how she wants to take control😀. Her taking advantage of Simon was not properly dealt with in the books or the show.  So, even though I love Simon's character and their scenes made me a bit giddy, I can't in good concious rate this book any higher than 2 stars.
