I love Sonali Dev's books, and this was not a miss. The pacing in this one had me screaming!!!!! I wanted these two to be together but self-sacrificing made me want to punch them in  the face.

A bit slow at the beginning but a rewarding ending.

i really liked this one but first and foremost i have to get something out of the way:

my overwhelming complaint about these books, yes books ! the series as a whole ! all of them, is: WHAT IS THE TIMELINE?! nisha is pregnant in book one and completes her first trimester which is the first three months. trisha and dj get together shortly after that. it’s implied at the beginning of book 2 that trisha and dj have been together for a few months. book 2 takes places over the course of a several weeks. then you get to the start of book 3. its implied that rico and ashna have been together for a few months. nisha is STILL somehow pregnant. i was expecting her to give birth in book 2. she gives birth at the end of this book and gives birth FOUR WEEKS EARLY. SO YOU’RE TELLING ME THAT THE END OF BOOK 1 TO THE END OF BOOK 3 TAKES PLACE OVER THE COURSE OF 5 MONTHS?! THERE ARE MULTIPLE TIMES IN THIS BOOK WHEN ITS LIKE “i haven’t seen india in three weeks” THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE !!!!! I DONT THINK THE AUTHOR GAVE A FIG ABOUT HER TIMELINE I REALLY DONT !!!! THIS IS COMPLETELY NONSENSICAL ITS THE WORST PART !!! also she thinks that 6th graders are 14 years old. please use google once maam.

anyway, this was so tender. this captured the dynamic between elinor and edward so well - the longing, the grief, the hurt, the sense of duty, the weight of the world. i maintain that elinor dashwood is THE most underrated austen heroine, and sonali dev captures her in a modern essence BRILLIANTLY. yash is an EXCELLENT male lead: he carries all this emotional trauma that hasn’t been sorted out but not because he’s a toxic male! because he puts everyone else first! his character development is so moving. their relationship is so gentle and soothing and healing. they are so insanely in love. i think this is the most outwardly romantic one so far. these two SWOON for each other. delectable!

and the side plots! marianne’s plot is done so well. worked into the story in a way that’s not overpowering - since marianne’s story very much (intentionally) overpowers elinor’s in the original.  it’s modernized in a way that works and i think it speaks to the fact that sibling dynamics and sisterhood in general doesn’t change regardless of time period.

think this was my favorite so far. not looking forward to book four honestly cause naina leaves a real sour taste in your mouth at the end of this one. but oh well!

“I feel consequential when I’m around [her.]. Being removed from her presence feels violent.”
