It's a good book but I expected more from it. The world building, concepts and colonial undertones were very interesting, lush and wonderfully south asian, and the writing was beautiful but I didn't care about the characters enough for any of the reveals to mean anything much. The main relationships didn't feel powerful, and so most of the decisions felt underwhelming

Truly a phenomenal book - the world building was perfectly paced and well crafted, the characters were deep and interesting, and the author deftly avoided some of the common tropes of the genre.
