My Thoughts:

I live in New Jersey, not far from where this book takes place so of course I had to read it. Hmmmm. I was less then thrilled. It was a gore-fest. I was hoping for a creepy, scary novel but what I got was blood, guts and more guts. I am not squeamish and blood and guts can have their place in a book but for me, it was just too much and not enough story. If that is your thing then this book is for you.

I didn't really care for this . . . This was the first Hunter Shea book I've picked and I wasn't really impressed. I mean if we were attempting to explore terrifying creatures this definitely did that. But the perverted aspect didn't sit right with me.

Was pretty underwhelming overall.  The audio was too distracting with all the music constantly playing, making it hard to hear the story.

When Jersey Devil sightings spike, Sam Willet and his family head to the New Jersey Pine Barrens for a reckoning sixty years in the making. With a cryptozoologist and a van full of firepower, will they be able to bring down the devil and live to tell the tale?

My young eyes first encountered the legend of the Jersey Devil in [b:Monsters You Never Heard of|250780|Monsters You Never Heard of|Daniel Cohen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1282372886s/250780.jpg|2544090] sometime before the age of ten. I thought it was kind of lame and forgot about it until it was featured in an early X-Files episode. Anyway, since Hunter Shea is the bee's knees, I figured I'd give this one a shot when I saw the price dropped to ninety-nine cents. I'm cheap, what can I say.

The Jersey Devil is the story of Sam Willet and his family's axe to grind with the Jersey Devil, who terrorized Grandma Willet six decades earlier. Aided and abetted by a noted cryptozoologist, they walk into the Pine Barrens. Some of them even manage to hobble out.

This book is about as gentle as a trip to a slaughterhouse. Character after character are introduced, only to be fed through the Jersey meatgrinder once you feel something toward them. The body count is off the chart. The Devil's origins are explored and its mythology is expanded upon. And its many children go on a feeding frenzy...

I'd say this is the goriest Hunter Shea novel I've read yet and the threat of the Jersey Devil was probably the worst. After a while, I was just hoping one or more members of the Willet clan would survive.

The Jersey Devil is a gory good time, highly entertaining but definitely not for the squeamish. Four out of five stars.

Meh, Overall, I have found that I don't generally enjoy full cast productions of audiobooks. The story is fine if a little over the top, but I prefer a single narrator.

I really wanted to like this book and I really did for maybe 60% of it. Great descriptions of South Jersey and fun characters. However, trigger warning for why I ended up not liking it below.

SpoilerRape. So much rape... and Beastiality rape at that. This could have been a really awesome and fun creature feature but for some completely unnecessary reason the author decided to have a bunch of his female characters as rape victims. I am so sick of those trope that I see so often (mostly by male authors).
